How we write questions

Ayes only works if people on every side can trust it. These are the rules every question follows.

1. Neutral wording

No loaded words and no leading questions. We ask, we never hint at the "right" answer.

2. Balanced answers

Every reasonable view gets an option, plus "Not sure" where it makes sense, so nobody is forced to pick a side they don't hold.

3. We never take sides

We publish the numbers and don't tell you what they mean. Ayes has no opinion on the questions it asks.

4. No targeting people

We don't write questions designed to mock or single out individuals or groups.

5. Sponsors never write the questions

Sponsored questions are always labelled. Sponsors can't choose the wording or influence the results, and they never see who voted or how.

6. One person, one vote, kept anonymous

Each account votes once. We record that you voted, never what you chose, so nobody (not even us) can see your vote.

7. Results stay private until there are enough votes

A result only shows once at least 10 people have voted, so nobody's choice can be guessed. The question of the week is revealed on Sunday at 8pm.

8. Open about what results are

Ayes shows how Ayes users voted. It isn't a scientific poll of the whole country, and we say so next to every result.

Think a question isn't fair?

Tell us. Email hello@ayesapp.com with the question and what you'd change. We read every message, and we'll reword anything that isn't neutral.

Got a better question?

Suggest one in the app: open Quick votes and tap Suggest a question. The best ones get asked.
